Medium range, two-way personal radio with a frequency switch. Requires a battery to operate.In-game description

The Handheld Transceiver is a communication device in DayZ, when used in conjunction with a second Handheld Transceiver, both set to the same frequency, survivors can communicate with each other over a 5 kilometer range in-game. They can be found in various locations and require a Alkaline Battery 9V to function.

How to Use[ | ]

As soon as your radio has a working battery attached, you can talk over the selected frequency using in-game voice chat. The item must be switched on (by pressing left click once) and once 'ON' will receive all communications on that channel provided that it is within signal range (range is not unlimited).

The user may use their voice to communicate with anyone listening to the channel, so long as they are in range.

The user may select from a variety of frequencies on which to receive and transmit. Frequency selection is done by holding down left click. There are seven available frequencies: 87.8, 89.5, 91.3, 94.6, 96.6, 99.7 and 102.5 . It is suggested that players that want to speak "publicly" use the default frequency of 87.8 - once other player communication is setup it is wise and polite to move to one of the unused frequencies so not to "bleed over" the default channel.

Note: Communicating via this item does not disable Direct Communication. It functions as Direct Communications would, except it does so remotely. This means that nearby players can hear any communications received over the Handheld Transceiver and anything said or typed by the transmitter can be "heard" by nearby players as well. If the item is placed on the ground and left 'ON', anyone nearby can hear broadcasts coming from it.

Trivia[ | ]

  • It seems to be based on the IC-M7 Handheld-UKW-Seetransceiver of the Japanese Company ICOM and it has the BP-90 BATTERY CASE version.
