Empty the box to receive '''20''' usable 5.56×45mm rounds. <!-- Gallery --> == Gallery == <gallery mode="packed" heights="150"> File:AmmoBox 556x45 20Rnd.png|Box of 5.56mm Rounds File:Ammo 556x45Tracer.png|5.56mm Tracer Rounds </gallery> <!-- Trivia --> == Trivia == * The 5.56mm round is based on the real world [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5.56%C3%9745mm_NATO 5.56×45mm NATO] cartridge, a ruggedized and higher-powered version of the supersonic .223 Remington rifle round. It has a heavier casewall and a more secured primer pocket than the .223 Remington to allow it to function more reliably in automatic fire. The 5.56×45mm round also replaced the 7.62×51mm round's role as NATO's standard rifle cartridge. While it offers higher muzzle velocity, less weight, and less recoil, it also has a much lower muzzle energy and poorer penetration than 7.62×51mm NATO. * The .223 Remington was developed in the 1950s for the experimental American-made Armalite AR-15 automatic rifle. Colt bought the manufacturing rights in 1959, made a series of requested improvements based on testing feedback, and sold it as the Colt Automatic Rifle (CAR). It was later designated as the XM16 in 1962 and was first used by the US Air Force to replace the M2 Carbine and M3 Submachinegun. A modified version called the XM16A1 was adopted by the Army in 1963 for use by Special Forces teams and Airborne and Air Assault units. It was issued in the place of the M14 battle rifle in Vietnam in 1965 as the Standard B rifle, and became the Army and Marine Corps standard issue rifle in the South-East Asian theater in 1968. It became the official service rifle in the Continental United States in 1969 and in US NATO service in 1970. * The ammunition brand's name is in Russian ('''МЕТКИЙ ВЫСТРЕЛ патроны''', ''Metkiy Vystrel patrony''), which roughly translates to “Precision Shot cartridges". * The 5.56mm NATO XM193 Ball and XM196 Tracer cartridges are for use with 5.56mm rifles with a 1-in-12 inch rifling twist like the M16A1. The modern M16A2/A3/A4 rifles have a 1-in-7 inch rifling twist and are optimized to use heavier and longer bullets like the M855 Semi-Armor-Piercing. This means the earlier ammunition will be less accurate in the new rifles. {{Ammunition List Navbox}}
