The Water Pump is a structure used to extract fresh water from a water well. They are common throughout Chernarus and can be found in the middle-sized and larger cities, especially in the countryside on the outskirts of small towns and villages.

As with any other fresh water source: it can be used by survivors to replenish their thirst or used to refill Canteens and Plastic Bottles and even Cooking Pots for Cooking options.

Players can also use the 'Wash Hands' option to clean their bloodied hands after butchering animal or player corpses at the Pumps. Hands must be empty of any item before the option will appear.

Notes & Tips

In order to refill your Cooking Pot, Plastic Bottle or Canteen at these locations: you must first equip the container in your hand. Look at the Water Pump whilst holding the container and an option will appear to fill it once it is empty or has Water in it already.
Water you get from pumps is always safe to consume; meaning you cannot contract Cholera from drinking it with clean hands or a disinfected container.
- However: if a survivor has not washed blood from butchering animals/survivor corpses off their hands before drinking from the Pump with bare hands - there is a significant chance of contracting Cholera.
- A player's hands will still have blood on them even if gloves are equipped during butchering and may not be visible. Always wash your hands before eating or drinking with your bare hands!

Drinking too much water too fast will give a Full Stomach warning icon in the lower right. Ignoring this and continuing to drink will cause a player to start vomiting eventually.
It is always faster to Fill a container then consume the full container to re-hydrate than it is to drink continuously with bare hands which is significantly slower.

Trivia/Bugs

As of 1.06 you can cancel the drinking action as soon as it starts which will still grant you the same amount of water (100ml) as if you did the full animation. With this bug you can drink up to the max in 30 seconds.
