Latest revision as of 11:04, 6 March 2014

Hey Planky. As you know there was some pretty serious vandalism from a particular user; I think he used two different IP addresses to edit the pages. I personally though that this user could do more damage in the future, so I blocked them for an indefinite time. Perhaps that wasn't really necessary, so for future reference, how long should I block users for (like depending on the severity)? Thanks. (PlanetZ (talk) 14:28, 8 January 2013 (UTC))

Hey, just following Smokie's guidelines :) The trouble with banning IPs is that in all likelihood the person who did it will get assigned a new one (assuming he doesn't have a static IP, we cant tell). Of course the period we block for up to our judgement, but the maximum should be three months. Beyond that wouldn't achieve anything :> Planky (talk) 14:41, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
Understood. I'll follow that now :) (PlanetZ (talk) 14:10, 9 January 2013 (UTC))

you dont have to put noinclude around categories. they arent shown anyway.--TheBlackDracula (talk) 11:09, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

Yes, you do. Its to prevent the categories showing up on pages that include multiple other pages. Have a look at http://dayz.gamepedia.com/index.php?title=Survival, its content is pulled from other pages. If the categories are not in noinclude tags, it lists all the categories from each page thats included, which makes a mess. Pl4nky (talk) 11:15, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

Hey![]

This is the thanks i get[]

My username is Neoboy11. My friends and i have been taking it upon our self's to update the Dayz wiki page ammunition section as a service to the community. I have uploaded most of the item images and descriptions to the ammunition section since the release of dayz. I logged on today to update some newly added items that were added to the game recently. In disbelief my account blocked by you for inserting nonsense/gibberish into pages. What does that even mean? What is nonsense/gibberish? I am offended that me and my friends efforts have resulted in my account getting immediately blocked with no little as much as a warning of this supposed nonsense i have been adding to the wiki pages. I assure you i only upload information to the wiki that can be proven and tested in the game. I have a bunch of new HD transparent item screenshots and descriptions i was going to add but they seem to fit better in my recycle bin. If i am going to be taken so lightly for my time and effort. Why should others do them same.

Hi Neoboy11. I am sorry you have had this issue. I have looked at the blocked list, your user account is not currently blocked (thus you being able to post on my user talk page). You also do not appear in the recent changes list as being blocked by me or anyone else. The only blocks I have issued in the last month are for IP addresses that have made inappropriate edits (adding curse words and the like) - if I have managed to ban you mistakenly, I apologize. I have seen the content you add and am very happy for that to continue as your contributions add to the quality of the wiki. Pl4nky (talk) 23:22, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
This is from the blocked log, IP and the change made to result in the blocks:
174.134.64.49, http://dayz.gamepedia.com/index.php?title=Weapons&diff=prev&oldid=32910
213.125.69.85, http://dayz.gamepedia.com/index.php?title=Changelog&diff=prev&oldid=32885
172.23.20.143, http://dayz.gamepedia.com/index.php?title=Weapons&diff=prev&oldid=32848
98.167.203.152, http://dayz.gamepedia.com/index.php?title=Taloon_Backpack&diff=prev&oldid=32731
72.216.60.72, http://dayz.gamepedia.com/index.php?title=M4A1&diff=prev&oldid=32298
58.96.36.179, http://dayz.gamepedia.com/index.php?title=Weapons&diff=prev&oldid=32212
If you edit from one of these IPs, then that would explain why you were blocked - someone at your IP made a nonsense change and I placed either a 1 week or 2 week block. If that change wasn't you, then I apologize. As you can see, your account is not blocked currently and you are able to edit per normal. Pl4nky (talk) 23:48, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

Unblock issue[]

I think i understand the situation now. So there was some vandals who were editing the wiki page which you issued ip address blocks but mistakenly banned my account as one of the vandals. You then realized your mistake by unblocking my account according to the log.

Log: http://www.mediafire.com/view/myfiles/#3z4kkz63q2u70b6

Here is were things get interesting. I am still blocked. I currently am having to use a vpn to change my ip address to be able to bypass the block to communicate with you. Apparently even thought you unblocked my account the system is still blocking my original ip address of 23.226.100.167 blocking my ability to do anything on the wiki.

Message when i try to edit: http://www.mediafire.com/view/myfiles/#m64g09fp3vn6773

Unless i tried to edit the wiki between 11:03 and 11:04 on January 24. The period of a min. I still should not be receaving this message.

I remember that block - I was meant to block the previous edits, rather than yours. Very strange, that IP does not appear in the current block list at all; the block message you are getting should also be showing a block id, which is blank. - I'll raise it with the site admin as that definitely should not be happening! Do you have a steam account? I found a neoboy11 on there, but not sure if its you. Cheers - Pl4nky (talk) 01:58, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

edit---

Alright thanks i forgive you. I was just like what did i do and why was i not even warned about it before i got blocked. Just as long as it eventually get fixed. Lets make the wiki awesome!

Note: The reason i had to use a vpn is because when blocked your also blocked from editing users talk section including admins to communicate.

Edit--

yes that is my steam account.

Possible troll[]

I noticed that a huge portion of information was removed from all the cmags in the ammunition section by a user with the ip address of ‎68.144.170.165 around the 30th of Jan. Could you maybe do some investigating. This user seem according to the logs keeps removing things from the wiki pages so its got me kinda concerned.

I had a quick look - seems he was removing non-dayz related information. I think the aim was to provide more to the point information about the game, rather than giving the history/details about the weapons (which can be found elsewhere). His subsequent edits were corrections and not fake/bogus info. I'll check with smokie about the level of history that could be included vs the game details. I think a minimal approach would be best. Pl4nky (talk) 23:17, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
Alright thanks. The Arma engine is designed to be a ultra realistic military simulator. Because it realistic in the way the game function quite a bit of real world information apply s. So unless you know stuff about the military and firearms it can be frustrating for novice players. The problems is finding a balance. I think it should just be no more than a short paragraph and straightforward as possible. Not a research paper like some of the weapon pages look like.

Hey Pl4nky[]

Is it possible to change my username? I created this account for a few minor changes and now I am full in :) --LittleHelper321 (talk) 17:06, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Hit up user:Smokie (smokie@curse.com), he should be able to help --Pl4nky (talk) 00:07, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
Hello again. Would it be possible to change the Ressource listing on the front page a little bit? I think it would be nicer if we put Backpacks unter Equipment and weapon stuff under Weapons. With "under" I mean one listing level deeper (see this as example). And maybe split Consumables in Food and Medical. I hope it's all right that I change so much :) --RocknRolla7 (talk) 01:25, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
I dont see an issue with that, I'll change it some time in the next few hours -Pl4nky (talk) 08:35, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

Main Page fixes[]

Hey, you've forgotten to remove the "Backpack" link from the bottom of the Ressources list. It's listed twice atm. Regards, --RocknRolla7 (talk) 19:05, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

I've just seen I can fix it myself. Fixed :) --RocknRolla7 (talk) 19:13, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

Do we really need a link to every weapon type on the main page? IMHO * Weapons, ** Ammunition, ** Attachments is enough. Regards, --RocknRolla7 (talk) 19:18, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

feel free to change. though im surprised the main page and its subpages arent protected. hmm. -Pl4nky (talk) 22:10, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

Categories[]

can you decide how we should handle the categories?

Articles in Maincategory AND Subcategory or only the Subcategory?

Example: Magnum category: Weapons + Sidearms

or Magnum category: Sidearms
