“A sawed-off double-barreled break-action shotgun. Old and reliable design, capable of firing both barrels simultaneously. Uses both 12ga bucks and slugs. — In-game description
The Sawed-Off BK-43 is a modified version of the double-barreled IZH-43 shotgun that has its barrels shortened and stock has also been cut down to create a pistol grip. But otherwise identical to the BK-43, using the same 12 Gauge Buckshot, and has a capacity of two cartridges.
The sawed-off can be crafted from a BK-43, using a hacksaw. Being shorter, the gun is more compact and use easier to use in confined spaces. Its shorter barrel gives the gun a larger shot dispersal cone when using buckshots, at the cost of a reduced effective range. Also, a lack of shoulder mount increases the gun's recoil.
Overall the sawed-off is more suited to close quarters, face-to-face situations, while BK-43 having a longer barrel and tighter pellet spread is more suited to mid-range situations. The shotgun can shoot one or both rounds at the same time, making it extremely deadly in close-quarters, but its damage potential is heavily curbed by its frequent need for reloads. The sawed-off shotgun is best reserved for use against single enemies, when you can rail off the two rounds very quickly and then take cover to reload.
