The Medical Thermometer is a piece of medical equipment in DayZ used to get a player's body temperature. The Medical Thermometers primary medical application is determining if a player has a Fever. A player can use the Medical Thermometer to take his/her own temperature or can use the Medical Thermometer to take another player's temperature. A temperature reading greater than 38.5 indicates the player is suffering from a Fever.
Player Temperature and The Medical Thermometer[ | ]
Since the Medical Thermometer is intended to be a diagnostic tool used to tell if a player is suffering from a Fever, it should be noted that the Medical Thermometer does not return the player's actual body temperature. Instead, it returns a random temperature above 38.5 if they do have a Fever and a temperature between 36 and 36.5 if they do not have a Fever. This was more than likely done to prevent confusion and misdiagnosis as a player's body temperature can go above 38.5, without a Fever, due to environmental conditions.
