Trivia[ | ]

  • The Crossbow is based on the real life modern recurve crossbow. Crossbow first major usage originates in China around 600 BCE. Although they see very little use in modern militaries, crossbows are still used for hunting and recreational target shooting. Modern crossbows can have rails mounted onto them, allowing accessories such as optical sights to be easily added.
    • The Crossbow in-game was based on the Excalibur Axiom SMF crossbow.
  • It was first previewed in a 2013 press release image depicting it with a Crossbow Scope. This item was never added to the game, likely being succeeded by the Handgun Scope, which was attachable to the Crossbow for a time.
  • It was introduced in patch v0.44.123800 on the 23rd April 2014 alongside its bolts. It was then subsequently removed in Beta 0.63 alongside other bows awaiting reimplementation on newer technology.
  • For some time after its initial introduction, the Crossbow was able to accept optics that fit a Picatinny rail (such as those compatible with the M4-A1). This was later changed to its current optics choices. The weapon was then reverted to re-accept West optics in its reintroduction in 1.21.
  • It was reimplemented in 1.21 Experimental with four new camouflages, with the model being upscaled and the in-built quiver arm being removed from the bottom of the model. The original leaf texture model remains but is not currently obtainable.
  • A green texture and a black texture are within the files alongside references to spraypainting, indicating there was considerations to allow spraypainting the Crossbow. The black texture currently spawns as a possible variant, but the green texture Crossbow remains to be seen.
