The Ballistic Helmet is a wonderful addition to any survival gear set and is best used in close-combat situations, which is where head injuries most often occur.
The ballistic helmet is most commonly found at military locations. Occasionally, the Infected will spawn with the helmet on. The primary advantage of the helmet is its shock and damage absorbency; unlike the tactical helmet. However, this comes at the trade-off of not possessing a slot for night-vision goggles or a universal flashlight, nor the higher shock protection given by the assault helmet. However, more of these tend to spawn which makes it much more common for Survivors to wear than the Tactical Helmet or Assault Helmet.
Note: The stats on this helmet are high enough to possibly save you from an assault rifle round at close range without knocking you out.

- Before 0.58, the Ballistic Helmet could be repaired with a Leather Sewing Kit.
- Since 0.61, the black variant has a much sharper texture than the AN or green variant.
