The 5.56mm Round is a type of cartridge in DayZ Standalone. It is a high velocity small caliber round. In DayZ, it is used in the M4A1, Steyr AUG and AK101 rifles. The rounds can be found in abandoned military bases and other general military locations. They are found individually, packed in 20 round boxes, or loaded in magazines. They can be stacked in groups of 30 to save inventory space.
Weapons using this ammunition:
- M4A1 - which can be fed using one of the following magazines; 30Rnd STANAG standard or coupled magazines or CMAG with capacity of 10, 20, 30, or 40 rounds.
- AK101 - which can be fed using the 30Rnd AK101 mag.
- Steyr AUG - which can be fed using the 30Rnd Steyr AUG mag
Trivia
The 5.56 round is based on the real world 5.56×45mm NATO cartridge. It was developed for the American AR-15 rifle, later the M16 and several variants, during the Vietnam war in the 1950s, derived from the .223 Remington rifle round. The 5.56x45mm round also replaced the 7.62x51mm round's role as NATO's standard rifle cartridge. While it offers higher muzzle velocity, less weight, and less recoil, it also has a much lower muzzle energy and low penetration than the 7.62x51mm NATO.
