The M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) is the U.S. military designation for the FN Minimi Light Machine Gun (LMG). The M249 SAW, chambered in 5.56mm NATO, provides infantry squads with the heavy volume of fire of a machine gun combined with accuracy and portability approaching that of a rifle.
It is advisable to fire the M249 SAW in short bursts of 3-5 shots to reduce muzzle climb and conserve ammunition. Prolonged fire leads to lessened accuracy and uncontrollable sway. Notably, when using the 200 round belt magazines, it has the largest ammunition capacity across all the (infantry) weapons in game.
