Standard issue USMC designated marksman rifle, scoped variant of the M14. Powerful and accurate at range. This weapon is a semi automatic with a magazine size of 20. With its generous magazine size and the availability of its ammo, this weapon is a solid choice as a sniper rifle. The rapid-fire capabilities of this weapon make it excellent for taking down moving targets.
The mil-dots in the DMR's scope can be used to estimate your distance from a target. This allows you to zero the rifle with little difficulty.
VIDEO: Estimate target distance with scope mil-dots
The DMR mil-dot sight is zeroed for 350 meters. This means the center of the sight will hit at 350 meters. The DMR CANNOT be zeroed manually like other sniper rifles in DayZ on Chernarus.
The way to aim with the DMR scope is to use accurate mil settings to hit more accurately. After extensive testing, the mil settings for the DMR are as follows:
Mil-Dot - Range
(Zoom Level 1)
0 = 125m (Cross-hair) @ ≈0.15sec TOT (Time on Target, indicating flight time from point of firing to reach target)
-1 = 400m @ ≈0.47sec TOT
-2 = 650m @ ≈0.76sec TOT
-3 = 800m @ ≈0.93sec TOT
-4 = 975m @ ≈1.14sec TOT
-5 = 1100m (Bottom Bar) @ ≈1.16sec TOT
(Zoom Level 2)
+2 = 100m @ ≈0.12sec TOT
+1 = 250m @ ≈0.29sec TOT
0 = 350m @ ≈0.41sec TOT
-1 = 475m @ ≈0.55sec TOT
-2 = 550m @ ≈0.64sec TOT
-3 = 600m @ ≈0.70sec TOT
-4 = 700m @ ≈0.82sec TOT
-5 = 750m (Bottom Bar) @ ≈0.87sec TOT
DMR Bullet Flight Speed
859 Meters Per Second (approx. 2,818 Feet Per Second)
Accurate Mil-Dot Range Calculation
Because there is no zeroing available for the DMR, there is a formula that you can use to range the target very accurately, it relies on a simple formula:
r = (h * 1000) / m
Where r is Range, h is height, and m is their height in Mil-Dots WHILE ZOOMED IN with the scope For h, use 1.8 if they are standing, 0.9 if they are crouching, 0.4 for prone (at the head) or 0.2 (at the leg).
For example, if the target is standing up, and they are three Mil-Dots high, the formula works like this:
r = (1.8 * 1000) / 3
r = 1800 / 3
r = 600 m
Using this formula you can very easily range targets if you do not have easier ways to range-find your target (Rangefinder, mouseover, or a range finding via map)
See the picture below for a representation of the DMR mil-dot sight. The DMR scope can be used in conjunction with the Night Vision Goggles, while some other scoped weapons cannot.
