View on Chernogorsk from unknown

Chernogorsk (pronunciation), or "Cherno" for short, is a large industrialized city located on the southern coast of Chernarus, between Balota and Elektrozavodsk. Chernogorsk was a regional administrative center that provided infrastructure and services to a lot of the surrounding communities.

Originally a small fisherman's village, of Chernaya Bay. The city became heavily industrialized by the investments of the Chernarussian Republic, which began in the 50's of the previous century.[1] The heavily industrialization reflects in the fast-engineered infrastructure and generic apartment block style housing developments, which expanded beyond Chernogorsk proper into several adjoining suburb areas (chapaevsk, Novoselky, Dubky and prigorodki).

Chernogorsk has always been a harbor town, once connected to northern trade routes by means of coastal railroad, it became a reliable transport hub for raw materials flow to Elektrozavodsk, and its own and other industrial center that country infrastructure previous couldn't support.[2]

Chernogorsk is the largest port-city in Chernarus and a regional administrative center that provided infrastructure and services to a lot of the surrounding communities. Its giant factory complex adjoining the city center, remarkable City Hall constructed 1955 and a relic of a famous hotel built on victory square.[3] It has two Hospitals, a Police and Fire department and several place of worship in its vicinity.

Buildings of Interest[edit]

After the Outbreak[edit]

Since the outbreak the city populace has succumbed to the virus and its apartment building and abandoned factories are now infested with Zombies, however, the city's large size and abundance of loot make it a target for scavengers. It is one of the most populated places on the map and, as such, is a risky place for newly spawned players. Snipers will often hide on rooftops or on the hills north of the city and attack unwitting players due to the high traffic through the area.

Bandits have always been in high numbers in Chernogorsk due to its close proximity to the Balota Airstrip. However, with most of that particular airfield becoming de-militarized as of 0.49, it has lost some of its appeal. Chernogorsk has developed a reputation and as such people avoid it.

This city has seen most of its conflict migrate east to the nearby city of Elektrozavodsk. This is mostly due to Chernogorsk having fewer loot spawns to warrant the risk as well as Elektrozavodsk having far fewer high sniping points. Sniping is what made Chernogorsk notorious, and it has four major sniping points. One from the Construction site, one from the Fire Station, another from the tall silo building in north most section of the city with blue silos on the top, and lastly the largest building in the city: City Hall (which is also the highest point).

The most dangerous places are:

  • The Police Station
  • Super Markets
  • Drinking Fountains
  • Fire Stations
  • Snipers on the tower silos
  • Open areas

As of patch 0.47.124641 multiple zombie types have been introduced. They are all equally dangerous. However, Zombie threat levels are determined by the environment, how many non-aggro spawns the zombies start with and how easy it is to lose a pursuing zombie. Being a major city, Chernogorsk spawns a lot of standing zombies. This in turn makes approaching it -- even on an empty server -- problematic. There is a lot of cover for crawler zombies to sneak up on the player, as well as lots of cover for sound generated spawns to spawn behind. Like most cities in the current version of DayZ, it is possible to get swarmed with more then five or six zombies at a time. Chernogorsk is host to a lot of "deadfalls" that are just tall enough to break legs, so be careful when avoiding zombies. There are also a lot of open areas. Zombies can flush players out into the scopes of snipers in this area more so than any other city.

  • The name "Chernogorsk" derives from "Black Hill" in Russian. In real life there is a town with same name in the Republic of Khakassia, Russia. Population: 72,117.
  • Chernogorsk used to be the largest city in Chernarus in the Mod, however, in Dayz SA that title now belongs to Novodmitrovsk.
  • ^ The history section in part is based on the fictional history of Chernarus, that has been the setting for both ArmA II and DayZ Mod. Based on the assumption that DayZ takes place in a branching timeline after the Events of Arma2.
