The M249 SAW is an american variant of FN Minimi light machine gun. The M249 is widely used in various branches of U.S. Armed Forces. The weapon has only a fully automatic mode of fire. This weapon is belt-fed, with belts stored in ammo boxes. — In-game description
The M249 SAW is a type of weapon in DayZ. It has not yet been implemented. It was originally teased by Lead Artist Chris Torchia on Nov 12, 2015.
