A roll of non-sterile gauze bandage. Can be used to directly stop the bleeding, but can also be used other ways. — In-game description

Bandages are a key medical item in DayZ. As a basic, but extremely important item, bandages are used to stop blood loss from open wounds sustained when a survivor is injured. Bandages can spawn almost anywhere, but can most frequently be found inside first aid pouches or hospitals. Nurse and paramedic infected may also carry bandages.

Bandages are the fastest way to stop a bleeding, with roughly 2 to 3 seconds for a wound.

Application[ | ]

Survivors that are bleeding, indicated by the blood symbol, desaturation of a player's screen color and in-game as a stream of blood gushing from a player, need to take the bandages into their hands and then press and hold the use key (PC Default: Left mouse button).

Bandaging is a continuous action, taking several seconds to complete, so the player will need to continue holding down the use key until the action is completed; otherwise, the bandaging action is stopped. Additionally, survivors with multiple open wounds will need to bandage each one individually to stop the blood loss completely.

Players can also bandage other survivors. However, both players will need to remain stationary until this action is finished in order for the bandaging to be completed successfully.
